Ms. Turner, once again, gives a brilliant performance as Ruth Matthews, a recently widowed mother of
two. When her healthy, normal 6 year old daughter suddenly goes into a severely autistic state, she goes
to any lengths to bring her daughter back to her and the world. A personal note; in a scene near the
beginning of the film Ruth goes for a walk out to the railroad tracks where her husband and her used to
go. Her best friend (played by Park Overall, who only months later would be seen with Ms. Turner again
in Undercover Blues) finds her out there, and there is where the audience learns the story of Ruth's
husband's death. My stomach twisted in knots as the train is rolling toward the two women and Ruth
won't get off the tracks, she just stands there crying and screaming over the train.
Definitely a must-see for a Kathleen Turner fan!
